I never watched Sebastião Nogueira play. The only thing I know about him is that he was one of Fábio Paím’s best friend while in Sporting… and that wasn’t a good thing.
Fábio Paím is a 23 years old player that once was praised as the most promising talent (even greater than Cristiano Ronald) in Sporting Youth Academy, but due to a lot of bad habits, nightlife in excess, and too much money, was lost in the process and now he is less than a mediocre player…
Back to Sebastião Nogueira… Of course making mistakes while he is 16 or 17 doesn´t mean anything if later he learned to became responsible and professional, but I really don’t know anything about his technical ability. What a I can tell you is that wingers were, in general, not promoted to our Senior team because we’ve always had a lot of great kids playing in that position… 2 of them became FIFA World Player of the Year (Figo and Ronaldo) and a lot of others like Boa Morte, Simão, Quaresma, and Varela never gave a chance to other promising wingers.
About Cyprus, I think its league is pretty nice for youth development as our team captain Daniel Carriço gained a lot with a loan to Cyprus team AEL Limassol back in 2008, becoming ready to grab immediately his spot in Sporting’s first team. Of course this was only possible because of his high potential ability.
I’ve noticed there are a couple of videos of Sebastião Nogueira on YouTube, I don´t know if you’ve already watched them. :inde:
Bulgaria has fed our championship with some very good players. Although most of them came here in the ending stages of their careers, still they did a very good job.
I can recall the names of Mihaylov, Mladenov, Slavkov (who I think won the european golden boot), Zdravkov (who became known as “Radi” in here), Getov (what a free kick taker) and the more notorious Emil Kostadinov, Ivaylo Iordanov (legend over here for his dedication to the club) and at last, but not the least, the magical number 10 Krassimir Balakov (Iordanov is legend but this guy is “God”).
It seems the bulgarian clubs haven’t been able to produce players of this calibre anymore. What has happened at youth level?
Of course the interesting part was not the game, but on the stands and in the streets before the game. Fights with English all over Sofia, police problems, chants against all black players and now… England is accusing us for racism.
