Is it the end of politics as we know it?” Segue a notícia em inglês:

In Iceland an odd turn of events occurred boarding on the zaniness of Arnold Schwarzenegger being elected a governor. Comedian Jon Gnarr Kristinsson started his own political party, The Best Party, ran for mayor of the nation’s capital, Reykjavik and then… he won! The party started last November as a satirical commentary on political incompetence, but the parody soon grew into a serious political movement.
Citizens were discontent with elected officials after Iceland fell into a banking crisis in 2008 due to the negligence of the politicians. Angry voters were drawn into the satirical approach of The Best Party – which promised free towels in swimming pools and a polar bear for the city zoo – and voted to have six of 15 seats on the council filled by party members.
Iceland’s prime minister acknowledged that these local elections were a vote of no confidence in the political establishment of the country. Kristinsson, the man at the helm of the party told the Financial Times, “I love this city very much so I really want to do a good job. I will keep my humor and use it to my advantage. It is my aim to be International Mayor of the Year for 2012.”
The Best Party also produced a video for their campaign replacing the lyric’s to Tina Turner’s “Simply The Best” with their own comedically and politically-minded ones. Check it out!
