Report: Sporting chance for Leicester striker Slimani
Leicester City striker Islam Slimani has been linked with a summer return to former club Sporting Lisbon.
Slimani managed 48 goals in 82 league appearances for Sporting in a three-year spell before joining Leicester in a reported £28million club-record deal in the summer of 2016.
The Algeria striker has been unable to secure a regular starting role at the King Power Stadium however, and spent the second half of the season on loan at Newcastle.
It had been thought the St James’ Park outfit could attempt to conclude a permanent deal in the summer but Newcastle are ready to look elsewhere for additions in attack as injury and later suspension limited Slimani to just four Premier League outings for the club.
Reports in Portugal now claim Sporting are ready to offer Slimani the chance of a return to Lisbon and they are keen to sign the striker on loan for the 2018-19 campaign with a view to a permanent transfer next year.
The Foxes would prefer to sell Slimani outright but may be prepared to sanction another temporary exit if no other serious bids are received.
