Ideally, the question of who were the world‘s all-time best goalkeepers can only be answered in three-parts.

- The official voting for the "The World‘s best Goalkeeper of the Century" has long been carried out through the participation of selected jurors (editorial staff) from almost all countries. This was done by means of a list of candidates who had qualified beforehand through the votes from the six football continents of Europe, South America, Africa, Asia, Oceania, North and Central America/Caribbean. At the continental votings - the jurors were only entitled to vote for goalkeepers from their own continents. The votings for the goalkeepers of the century from the individual football continents and of the world, as well as their honours take into consideration the period 1900 to 1999 and are published on the web site www.IFFHS.de - chapter VII and IX.

- The introduction of the annual voting for the "The World‘s best Goalkeeper" (by the IFFHS) created the objective conditions for determining an all-time world ranking of the best goalkeepers. Consequently, the best goalkeepers in the world can only be determined completely objectively from 1987. To do that, regard will be had to the annual "Top 10", with each goalkeeper awarded the number of points appropriate to his place in the rankings. The first receives ten points, down to the 10th who gets one point; the total points will give the All-Time World Goalkeeper Ranking since 1987.

This world ranking of goalkeepers is now available and covers 21 years. It will be updated annually in January, with each additional year. The IFFHS plans a Gala in 2012 to mark "25 Years World Goalkeepers", to which will be invited and honoured all of the annual winners and the "Top ten" in the overall placings.

- The goalkeepers for the period 1872-1899, as well as generally up to the present, will also be considered by the IFFHS using a different methodology: by having regard to the goalkeepers in the full "A" internationals, analogous Olympic matches, national cup finals, national championships and continental club competitions. The various rankings of the goalkeepers will be determined chronologically and published (including text and photos) step-by-step on the IFFHS website. Those world rankings for the 19th century have already been published in the chapters I, IV and V and will extend to 1910 in 2007/2008. In the national championships (chapter IV), some categories of goalkeepers up to the present have already been published and will be updated regularly."

Pena a votação só englobar entre 1987-2007, senão também lá estaria de certeza Damas, numa posição bem à frente do pato Baia.

Se o Preud'Homme tivesse ido pa um clube melhor q o benfas, tava a frente do cacilhas e v.d.s sem duvida

Preud'homme tecnicamente era um portento , um talento rarissimo que merecia ter tido uma carreira muito melhor do que ver-se enterrado nos orcs. Já o Schmeichel era simplesmente um monstro....nao tenho sequer palavras para adjectivar as qualidades dele na baliza , tinha á sua volta uma aura e uma presenca dentro da baliza que o transformaram num fenomeno. Muito provavelmente a contratação que mais festejei de ter ingressado no plantel sportinguista tal foi o meu espanto. Tenho pena que nao tenha ficado mais alguns anos , pois tinha mais que condicoes fisicas para tal.

Apesar do que significa para nós, não sei se Damas estaria à frente do Vítor Balizas. É que o Baía ganhou muitos títulos, e estes rankings da IFFHS têm por base uma série de factores que se convertem em pontos.

Quanto ao Schmeichel: 

Lembro-me que a sua contratação foi anunciada no sábado em que o Beira-Mar conquistou a Taça de Portugal. Por isso, tenho so jornais de domingo que falam nela. Que (dupla) festa que fiz nesse dia...

Melhor GR q vi a jogar no nosso clube, que me perdoem os fãs de Damas, de quem não apanhei o inicio de carreira. Por mim iam buscar o kasper, que apesar de não ter a qualidade do pai para lá caminha...

Acho que o Ricardo merecia melhor lugar, mas comparado com outros GK pode ser que seja justo. Que saudades. Eu só pedia um Ricardo, nem sonho com Shmeichels.

Fui ao baú e encontrei apenas um jornal desse dia. Não tem grande coisa...

Já agora, um pouco off-topic.

Até estou surpreendido. O Beira-Mar ganhou a Taça de Portugal na final dos pobres e A Borla não fez manchete com o Fifica. 

Penso que o GR será a posição mais difícil de avaliar objectivamente. Talvez por isso, nessa lista há jogadores vulgares colocados à frente de verdadeiros monstros. Mesmo o Schmeichel, que foi mesmo um jogador de outro mundo, está na frente porque ganhou o que ganhou no Man Utd, e facilmente cairia se tivesse feito carreira num clube mais fraco, porventura até tendo que defender muito mais.

Venho levantar este tópico porque vi no site da Uefa que ele vai estar hoje no chat.
